Family Violence Shelter
Family Violence Shelter
A Safe Place to Heal
Cheyenne River Indian Outreach’s Family Violence Shelter is a safe haven for women and children fleeing domestic violence. Victims of abuse and/or sexual assault find help within our walls while they recover from the trauma they experienced.
Because we serve an area the size of Connecticut, our shelter provides much more than just a secure, safe place to stay.
Services Available
While at the center, clients have full access to our advocates who help access the court system and explain future options.
We also offer assistance to deal with social services, medical issues and housing concerns. For those in need of counseling, our partnership with Catholic Social Services is invaluable.
Clients also have access to transportation, clothing through our Bear Necessities Thrift Store and food. Assistance with victim compensation claims and emergency financial assistance is also available.
Not Just for Women
Men, women and children in crisis can call our hotline to find information or request assistance from law enforcement to leave a dangerous situation.
Legal advocacy in the tribal court system, personal advocacy and support when victims need to testify in court, support groups, counseling and information/referral services are all available.
Our shelter is a member of:
- The South Dakota Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault
- The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence
- Many other organizations supporting domestic violence education, prevention initiatives and social change.
